What are the Pros and Cons of the Rigid and Collapsible Wire Containers?

Rigid wire containers are designed to handle more weight and heavy duty applications than collapsible wire containers. They can stack like collapsible containers but better handle the combined weights of the baskets resting on them. If your application demands handling heavy weight and constant use with economy of warehouse space being a secondary priority then rigid wire containers may be a good alternative. The advantage of collapsible wire containers is that they can be folded, stacked and stowed providing a greater economy of space as compared to stowing rigid containers. See photos below. Collapsible containers are very durable as well. The medium, large and extra-large containers, for example, can handle on average about 4,000 lbs (with the weight uniformly distributed). This is more than enough for most common applications. If however, your applications require a higher weight capacity then the rigid containers would be the option to explore. Another point to consider when deciding between purchasing a Rigid or a Collapsible container is your ROI in shipping costs. For example, you can fit more collapsible containers in a “skid position” than a rigid container. One skid spot or pallet position = 40” X 48” X (64”-84”) of space. For a 40” X 48” X 42” Collapsible Wire Container you can stack approximately 10 units in that space while for a Rigid Wire Container you can stack only 2 units. Here is a good option to consider if you are looking to purchase a larger quantity of containers for your facility: Purchase one rigid and one collapsible container and test them in your facility. If both can hold up to the demands of your application your decision will be much easier to make.
